"Pachydermoperiostosis Acquisita"


Today, I spent my afternoon listening to an online CME about cutaneous manifestation of malignancy. I came across this slide! This is the exact case that I got for my skin station in UMMC.
Scenario: This patient has a new onset cough with 10kg weight loss.He has clubbing of nails and painful knees which seem to be getting more bony. He also has thickening elephant-like skin. What do you think this person has?
Answer:It's a type of HPOA that is most commonly associated with lung CA. It also happens in benign pulmonary and cardiac disease.
